Lhasa Apso Poodle Mix Characteristics
The Lhasa Apso isn’t mixed very often with other breeds, but one of the breeds that it is sometimes mixed with is the poodle. The resulting lhasa apso poodle, or lhasapoo, usually has a mix of the characteristics of these two breeds. Lhasapoos bred with other lhasapoos tend to have offspring with a certain set of characteristics.
Lhasa apso poodles can have a variety of different coat colors. They are expected to live for approximately 14 to 16 years. Their exact size depends on the cross, but they are small dogs suitable for lap dogs.
Sometimes a lhasa apso poodle will have a temperament more like a poodle, and sometimes they will have temperament more like a lhasa apso. Those with a poodle temperament will be better suited for families with children than those with a lhasa apso temperament. The same is true when considering other pets. The lhasapoos that have poodle-like temperaments will be more likely to get along with other pets. These dogs are in generally happy, and tend to be gentle and sensitive as well.
The lhasa apso poodle will need a fair amount of time and attention. These dogs will have long hair, either straight or curly, that will need to be combed every day and clipped at least a few times a year. Many people that have these dogs as pets like to keep their hair clipped short. They also need to be bathed from time to time on an as needed basis. Lhasa-poos also need to have a moderate amount of exercise, so you will need to be sure you have the time for this.
These dogs can be trained, but you will need to be very patient and the training must be consistent. Lhasa apsos tend to be difficult to train, so mixes such as this will also be somewhat difficult to train as well. However, lhasapoos are relatively intelligent and can be taught tricks.
For those with allergies, this might be a good choice since the lhasa apso poodle is a non-shedding dog so it is less likely to cause problems for those who are allergic to pet dander. This is especially true if you keep the dog’s hair trimmed short.
